On 1st April I gave my talk on THE 7 STRATEGIES OF HIGHLY SUCCCESSFUL LANGUAGE LEARNERS, and the associated PERSONAL LANGUAGE LEARNING SYSTEM for helping people to acquire languages through self-study techniques at the ONLINE WORLD CONFERENCE called the POLYGLOT GATHERING, which attracted nearly 600 participants this year.

As usual, and in keeping with the mulitlingual philosophy of the conference, I gave the talk in one language (English) and the slides were in another (Spanish).

The same a last year, I gave the talk using Streamyard. I’m going to be honest; I think it’s a great platform in many ways, but not being able to see the audience is a big drawback for me. I like to interact with the audience, and with this online system it isn’t possible.

We had time for questions at the end of the talk, which were written, and I answered them verbaly. I was told there were a large number of people attending, and judging by the questions, the subject stirred a lot of interest.

The interesting thing about the participants at the gathering is that many do not have an advanced level in each language they speak, and what unites them is there enthusiasm for learning languages in general, and the enjoyment of taking part in talks whatever level they have. Attitude is everything when learning a language.

I look forward to doing the speech again, and depending on circumstances, I’d love to go to the live event in Poland next year. We’ll see.
